Using a voice translator to practice English (and where it stops helping)

Let us be honest about what this is: an interpreter, not a teacher. It is built so two people who do not share a language can talk, and that turns out to be useful for practising — but not the way an app designed for learning is.

What actually helps

You say the sentence in your own language and hear it back, said properly, at conversational speed. Not a word list: the sentence you actually needed, in the situation you actually needed it. That is the part people remember, because it was attached to something real.

And the transcript

You see what it understood before it speaks. Say the same sentence in English yourself and you find out immediately whether your pronunciation landed — no teacher and no score, just whether the words came out as the words you meant.

Where it stops helping

It will not correct your grammar, it will not explain why something is wrong, and leaning on it means never having to struggle — and the struggling is where the learning happens. Use it to get through the conversation today, and something built for teaching to get better at it.

What it costs: you pay for the minutes you speak, not a subscription. 15 minutes for US$6.99, 30 for US$9.99, two hours for US$24.99. Credits do not expire. Try it free first.

Where not to use it

Not for a medical consultation, a legal proceeding or anything where a mistranslated word has consequences you cannot undo. Those need a sworn or certified human interpreter, and no software replaces one. This is for the counter, the workshop, the site visit and the conversation that would otherwise not happen at all.

Questions people ask before buying.

Will this teach me English?

No. It is an interpreter, not a course. It helps you hear correct sentences in real situations, which is a different thing.

Can I check my pronunciation?

Partly. Say the sentence in English and the transcript shows you what it understood. If the words match what you meant, it landed.

Is there a free way to try it?

Yes, a few minutes without an account, from the interpreter page.
