Paper card scanner: they hand you paper, you keep the contact

Handing over your card is half the exchange. The other half is the card they hand you, and that half is where contacts get lost: it goes in a pocket, the pocket goes in a drawer, and three weeks later it is a name with no conversation attached.

What it does

Photograph the card with your phone. POCCard reads it and fills in seven fields: name, company, role, e-mail, phone, website and address. You check them, correct anything that came out wrong, and save. It lands in your contacts, next to the people who left you their details from your own card.

What happens to the photo

Nothing. The image is sent to be read, the text comes back, and the image is discarded. It is somebody else’s card: it carries their name, their phone and their e-mail, and keeping it would be storing a third party’s personal data with no use for it. The first time you scan, POCCard asks you to agree that the image is processed outside; you can say no and the rest of the product works the same.

How many

Twenty a month on Personal and Personal for life, a hundred on Teams, five hundred on Company. The count resets on its own when the month changes. A scan that fails because of us does not use one up.

What it will not do

It reads what is printed. A card with a logo instead of a company name, a handwritten mobile number or a design where the text runs over a photograph will come back with gaps, and it tells you which ones rather than guessing. You fix them in the same screen.
